You can explore and restore data from backups in the Restore Portal. As an end user, you perform a self-service data restore. As a restore operator, you investigate and restore backed-up data for objects that you have permission to manage.
The REST API and Restore Portal can be configured on a separate Server.
Restore operators can explore and restore data from backups created by Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365
The Restore Portal allows users and restores operators to view and restore data from backups. Restore Portal settings must be configured to allow users to perform the self-service restore.
The REST API is used to communicate with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365. Restore Portal also uses the REST API to communicate with the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server. In addition, the restore Portal allows users to perform the self-service restore.
On February 17, 2023, Veeam Backup & Replication v12 Day 0 was released. To access Veeam Backup & Replication v12 GA remotely, you must update the Veeam Backup & Replication V12 RTM console to v12 GA on a dedicated machine.
Configuring a restore portal is beneficial in a multi-tenant configuration and for organizations that want to limit access to the Veeam Backup for Office 365 console and delegate responsibilities such as restores.
Authentication settings can be configured on the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 server for tenants and restore operators.
On February 17, 2023, Veeam Backup & Replication v12 Day 0 is being released. This update is intended for existing Veeam Backup & Replication 12 RTM (build 12.0.0.1402) installations and will upgrade them to Veeam Backup & Replication V12 GA (build 12.0.0.0.1420). This update can be skipped if Veeam Backup & Replication 12 GA (build 12.0.0.1420) is already installed.
Veeam Explorers are available for Tenants in a Multi-Tenant configuration. These can only be installed on Veeam Backup & Replication Management Servers.
Follow the steps below to install Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 REST API component on a separate computer.
You can configure folder exclusions if you do not want specific folders to be backed up by a backup job or removed by a retention policy.
If you have created a Teams data retrieval job, you can restore Teams data from retrieved data.
If you have created a OneDrive data retrieval job, you can restore OneDrive data from retrieved data.
If you have created a SharePoint data retrieval job, you can restore SharePoint data from retrieved data.
You can restore exchange data from retrieved data if you have created an exchange data retrieval job.
To restore Microsoft Teams data, we use Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams. This tool is used to restore and export data from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 backups.
We use Veeam Explorer for Microsoft OneDrive to restore Microsoft OneDrive for Business data. This tool is used to restore and export data from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 backups.
We use Veeam Explorer for Microsoft SharePoint to restore data of SharePoint Online. This tool is used to restore and export data from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 backups.
We use Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange to restore Exchange Online data. This tool is used to restore and export data from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 backups.
Data retrieval, like data backup and copy, is a job-driven process. First, you must create a retrieval job to access your data in backup copies. Then, using Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams, create a retrieval job for the subsequent exploration and restore the retrieved data.
